Psychotherapist and Founder, Sussman Counseling

About This Expert

Rachel Sussman is a licensed psychotherapist, writer, and lecturer, specializing in relationship counseling. She is the founder of Sussman Counseling, a psychotherapy practice whose clients include couples and individuals with relationship dilemmas. Rachel’s background and expertise has led her to author her first book, The Breakup Bible: The Smart Woman’s Guide to Healing from a Breakup or Divorce.

Rachel attributes her success as a therapist to a gentle, yet no-nonsense approach, liberally dosed with humor. She gets to the heart of an issue and works through it with intelligence, compassion, and always with an eye towards equipping her patients with a fresh set of tools to help them better deal with life’s challenges.

Recognized as a relationship expert, she has appeared on the Today Show, CBS Early Show, The Dr. Nancy Snyderman Show, and Martha Stewart Radio. She regularly appears on ABC, CBS, and NBC local news broadcasts and has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Post, The New York Daily News, and in national magazines including Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Marie Claire, Redbook, Esquire and Details. Rachel also consults with marketing and lifestyle companies to predict relationship trends. She gives lectures and teaches workshops hosted by corporations, professional, and lay organizations. Her post-9/11 lecture series, “Caring for Yourself in Times of Stress,” attracted thousands of participants.

Rachel was inspired to write The Breakup Bible because she wanted to be able to reach more women with her message of hope and empowerment through some of the most difficult times in a woman’s life.

Rachel earned a B.S. from Emerson College in communications. She graduated with honors from New York University with a Masters Degree in Psychology and received post-graduate training in Marriage and Family Therapy. Before becoming a therapist and creating Sussman Counseling, she was a senior executive and partner in an international corporation.

Rachel lives with her husband and daughter in New York City, and does actually love long walks on the beach.
